The Big Plan

Chelsey and Dalton Emershaw are both Norton locals, sharing between them over 20 years of experience in theatre arts on and off stage. Their shared passion for the arts and more than a decade of creating together led to the spark that ignited the flame that is now Mountain Misfits Theatre Company. Both misfits are actors, well versed in a variety of performance styles and roles with a few favorites including a variety of Shakespeare’s works, Woman in Black, Pillowman, A Thick Description of Harry Smith Vol. 1, Crimes of the Heart, and classic tales such as Of Mice and Men.  The two don’t stop there though, as both are experienced scenic designers and builders, stage managers, technical theater collaborators, props creators, and directors. Chelsey brings to the table scenic painting skills as well as multimedia artist experience that allows for in house merchandise and advertisement design. Dalton brings experience in sound and lighting design as well as front of house management. Both have shared their skills among the various local theatres here in Southwest Virginia over the years including sharing their expertise with the rising artists in the area as instructors and collaborators. From Shakespearian classics, horror tales, and musical theater to curated art exchanges and avant-garde productions, these two are no strangers to performances of all kinds for all audiences. Lastly, it is worth a mention that their work in local non profit organizations, mental health, and community theatres drives their passion to ensure that the arts continue to grow and thrive while also providing them with unique perspectives on relationships, community, and the vastly complicated human existence that breathes life into comedy and tragedy alike.
